The medical studies lasted 7 years in St Petersburg, Russia. I specialized in general pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of Yaoundé. From there, I travelled to Nigeria to attend my training in pediatric endocrinology at the Pediatric Endocrinology Training Centre for West Africa (PETCWA) at LUTH—Lagos.
I have been an ISPAD, ESPE, and ASPAE member since 2017. I have attended the ASPAE meeting in Nigeria and Botswana and the ESPE meeting in Austria with the DOM school. I wanted to attend the ISPAD meeting last year, but my visa was refused.
In Cameroon, I worked in many regions as a pediatrician. I have been posted at the Central Hospital of Yaounde at the National Centre for Obesity, endocrinology, and Diabetes, where I see patients with different pathologies.
We run the diabetic clinic (CDiC: Changing Diabetic in Children) every Wednesday and have 1 day for endocrine issues. However, the emergencies are admitted every day, and most cases are diabetic. The other days are for general pediatrics. We run camps at least once a year for our diabetic patients and their parents or guardians. Therapeutic education sessions are done every 3 months, but with the pandemic of COVID 19, these sessions were done via WhatsApp once a week with 1 day of revision. The difficulty we encountered was a lack of an Android phone, but we used to do the education at each appointment personally.
Our unit teaches many medical students and residents studying in Yaounde and out of Yaounde.
