Life for a Child supports children and young people living with diabetes in under-resourced communities by partnering with local centers and equipping healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools they need to provide care. The program supplies insulin, blood glucose meters and strips, HbA1c testing, and other essential items so young people can access the treatment, education, and support they need to manage their diabetes.

Partner centres share clinical data and narrative reports with the Life for a Child team in Sydney, helping guide program development, supporting best quality care and ensuring supplies reach the young people in need.

The program sources and produces accessible education materials for children, families, and healthcare workers in various languages, and helps to develop the skills of local healthcare professionals. It also undertakes research that contributes to global knowledge about diabetes care in resource-limited settings and supports advocacy for improved access to care and supplies.

In all areas, Life for a Child encourages sustainability by working with already-established clinics and hospitals, as well as some governments. The program's long-term aim is to become redundant. Until then, it remains committed to reaching those who need support.

Life for a Child is an international program of Diabetes Australia, guided by the vision that no child should die of diabetes.
