ISPAD 50th Anniversary

• The dedicated ISPAD booth will serve as a hub for interaction. The booth will also showcase important information on the history of ISPAD with some give-aways made specifically for the occasion!
• A special session at the ISPAD 2024 Conference; Join us at the ISPAD Auditorium Hall 1 on Wednesday, October 16, for a captivating session on the History, Conception, and Birth of ISGD/ISPAD. Moderated by Stuart Brink, this session will feature insightful presentations from renowned speakers like Zvi Laron, Harry Dorchy, Johnny Ludvigsson, and Peter Swift. Discover the origins and evolution of ISPAD, view rare photographs from the society's early days, and learn how this vital international forum has shaped childhood diabetes care globally!

In partnership with the ISPAD Membership Committee, this campaign will feature video testimonials highlighting ISPAD's impact on members' professional journeys and the community's diversity. The theme, "ISPAD 50th Anniversary - Celebrating Our Legacy, Shaping the Future," emphasizes reflecting on past achievements while looking towards future advancements.

To commemorate its 50th Anniversary Conference, ISPAD is increasing its Travel Grant Budget to GBP 50,000 to support a total of 50 Travel Grants. This initiative aims to facilitate attendance at ISPAD 2024, especially for participants from low-resource countries, allied healthcare professionals (HCPs), and patient advocates.

On the occasion of our 50th annual meeting in October 2024, held in Lisbon, Portugal, the members of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes reaffirm their dedication to the principles of the Hippocratic Oath. We pledge to continue advancing by updating the ISPAD Declaration of Kos into the Declaration Of Lisbon, with the aim of promoting optimal health, social welfare, and quality of life for all children, adolescents, and young adults living with diabetes worldwide. This milestone gathering offers a unique opportunity to honor the commitments made by diabetes specialists of the past and to advocate for the following priorities for young individuals with diabetes (see panel).

The International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes was founded as ISGD, the International Study Group for Diabetes (in childhood and adolescence) in 1974. ISPAD Historian Dr. Stuart Brink looks back on the Society's very beginnings and summarizes 50 years of the ISPAD History in this didactic presentation.
